Dubai Drift Challenge 2007

Dubai Autodrome - UAE

Vlasblom shows right resilience to clinch inaugural Drift Challenge crown

Dubai: Paul Vlasblom of The Netherlands in a BMW M3 was declared the winner of the inaugural Dubai Drift Challenge held alongside the 2nd Toyo Tires 24 Hour Endurance Race at the Dubai Autodrome on Friday.

Vlasblom was under early threat as he staved off Marc Fleury of Switzerland in a BMW E30 during his first round.

Judges Michael Procureur of Belgium, Vincent Ollivier of France and Sohren Rehmann of Germany opted to give both one more chance, and Vlasblom was declared the winner after he came across as a more fighting driver. Vlasblom came up against Nicholas Heyer in the second battle.

Things went in favour of the Dutchman after Heyer spun off the track pushing Vlasblom into the final.

Excitement built up for the final between Fleury and Vlasblom. The first battle ended all square with judges scoring 5-5 after Fleury managed to keep up with the favourite.

But in the second run between the drivers, Vlasblom proved his superiority showing off his drifting skills while managing an overtake at the first corner and draw a huge cheer.

Heyer took his lighter Sierra Cosworth to a credible third spot.

Results: Third place: Marc Fleury bt Nicolas 8-2; 6-4. Final: Paul Vlasblom bt Marc Fleury 5-5; 10-0.

After the challenge, all the drivers put a huge drift show on the main straight line just before the start and after the end of the 24hours race.

ROUND 1 - FRANCE - CHAMBLEY

The road to the crown has started...

The new championship has started and we had an incredible show for this first round of the King of Europe Drift Series!  Incredible weather, Incredible drifters and Incredible audience!!! This week-end the real drift show was in Chambley and nowhere else!

France is new to Drifting and we got most of french drifters coming with BMW's, of course we got also some of the classic jap cars there.

In addition to the french drifters, some foreign drifters from Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Holland joined the competition with a big challenger : Paul Vlasblom!

After qualifications, Top 16 moved to a classic Twin Battle finals, French drifters will have to show off against the 6 foreign qualified drifters!

During qualifications Vernon Zwaneveld took the lead followed by Franck Van Heeren and Paul Vlasblom.

In this first twin battle round, local french drifters tried to take the win but unfortunately the foreign drifters level is far better, Ahmed Ayachi below try to take over the M3 of Robert Bezouska

At the end, only Christ Schummer with his E30 Touring below and Franck Lagalice managed to enter the 1/4 finals.

But the final four will be grabbed by the 4 Dutch drifters showing us that Holland is one of the biggest drifting country in Europe.   In the first semi-final Paul Vlasblom and his famous E36 touring will defeat Vernon Zwaneveld's AE86.  On the other side, Franck Van Heeren will succeed over Jasper "ShowMan" Spaan and his yellow S13.

In the final Paul Vlasblom will take another win over Franck Van Heeren, who can stop Paul ? Will Paul bring back another "King of Europe" title at the end of the season?

Stay tuned!

ROUND 2 - CZECH REPUBLIC

CESKA LIPA

Welcome to the East

King of Europe made its first stop in the East for the round 2 of the drift series.  One thing is sure good drifters and good weather are following this 2007 drift series!

Once again, Dutch drifters made big show in CZ!!!

Other drifters came from Poland, Hungary and of course Czech Republic.

After qualifications, Paul was ranked number one and Robert Bezouska was favorite number 2 to grab the win but unfortunately mechanical problems stopped him in 1/2 final.

Eastern drifters gave a hard time to the Western ones!

In this first round, local drifters tried to take the win but unfortunately the western drifters level was a bit better, anyway we can expect better results in the future from Robert Bezouska, Rubolf Neisser, Bartek owczarek or Jacek Sobczack

At the end, only Robert Bezouska managed to enter the 1/2 finals along 3 dutch drifters : Paul Vlasblom, Kees Kok and Vernon Zwaneveld.

Hungarian guys were a bit behind but we can expect them to be in the front of the battle at the round 3 which will be held on their local track of Budapest!

In the end Kees Kos took his first win over Vernon Zwaneveld in a very exciting final battle, can someone stop the flying dutch guys ? stay tuned for the next round!

King of Europe Drift Series 2007

ROUND 3 - HUNGARY

TOKOL

East Fever!

King of Europe was for the first time in Hungary and we can say it was one of the best drift round we ever had during King of Europe!  We are coming back in Hungary for the final round and if you missed this round 3, we all advise you not to miss the final one!

A large amount of East drifters were there as well as the classic Dutch drifters..

You might see cars already seen in other rounds of KOE, this is the very good point of this year 2007, more and more drifters are trying to follow the whole serie!

All local drifters showed a very agressive style during all the week-end and we discovered new machine like below this E36 V8 4.0, BMW are the main drift brand in Hungary and the most stunning one remains E30 V8 4.4 from Kerényi Ádám (first picture top of the page)

After qualifications, Paul Vlasblom was again ranked number one but Kerényi Ádám (recently well ranked in Hockenheim) was a serious contender to grab the win! Bart Drift from Poland was ranked #3, Bart is always good in qualifications but always get overstressed during the tsuiso!!!

Now let' start the tsuiso and let see if the Eastern drifters will give a hard time to the Western ones!

In this first round of this Top32, the main big fight was between Kerényi Ádám and Jacek Sobczak.  Sobczak was nowhere in the qualification round but then woke up, got back to his best drift level and put out Ádám in a battle that could have been a final battle!!!

Zsolt Spisak, Pora Norbert and Jacek Sobczak pushed their cars into the 1/4 finals but only Jacek managed to get a place among the Dutch monster-drifters in the semi-final!

We can expect a hot final round (double points) end of September, Hungarian guys were close to the top level and we can expect them to be up to the level at this final round!

In the end, Paul Vlablom won this round (again), followed by Kees Kok and Vernon Zwaneveld!
