Vlasblom shows right resilience to clinch inaugural drift challenge crown Dubai.
Paul Vlasblom of The Netherlands in a BMW M3 was declared the winner of the inaugural Dubai Drift Challenge held alongside the 2nd Toyo Tires 24 Hour Endurance Race at the Dubai Autodrome on Friday.
Vlasblom was under early threat as he staved off Marc Fleury of Switzerland in a BMW E30 during his first round.Judges Michael Procureur of Belgium, Vincent Ollivier of France and Sohren Rehmann of Germany opted to give both one more chance, and Vlasblom was declared the winner after he came across as a more fighting driver.
Vlasblom came up against Nicholas Heyer in the second battle.Things went in favour of the Dutchman after Heyer spun off the track pushing Vlasblom into the final.Excitement built up for the final between Fleury and Vlasblom. The first battle ended all square with judges scoring 5-5 after Fleury managed to keep up with the favourite.But in the second run between the drivers, Vlasblom proved his superiority showing off his drifting skills while managing an overtake at the first corner and draw a huge cheer. Heyer took his lighter Sierra Cosworth to a credible third spot.Results:
Third place: Marc Fleury bt Nicolas 8-2; 6-4. Final: Paul Vlasblom bt Marc Fleury 5-5; 10-0.After the challenge, all the drivers put a huge drift show on the main straight line just before the start and after the end of the 24hours race.
